 Park Avenue Residence

New York, NY

Gluckman Mayner Architects; David Taber, Project Architect

A monolithic, elliptical steel staircase became one of many distinguishing design elements in this art collector's capacious Manhattan apartment. White plaster walls serve as a backdrop to the sculptural staircase and the extensive contemporary art collection. Where possible, interior partitions were held off exterior walls to maintain sight lines from one end of the residence to the other. Continuity is further expressed with American Black walnut floors throughout. Two-inch thick acrylic pocket doors separate public spaces on the lower level, while parchment-clad doors provide privacy to the bedrooms above. Each of the three bedrooms contains stone clad bathrooms and wood lined dressing rooms.
